INSTRUCTORS

Carrie Perry is the Executive Director/Founder of Blue Heaven Therapeutic Riding Academy, Inc.
Carrie is a Certified NARHA Instructor and a level ll EAGALA Instructor. For the first 3 years of Blue Heaven, Carrie was the only instructor. Now Carrie is the horse professional in the EAGALA team. The team consists of a LCSW, Horse Professional and an EAGALA certified assistant. The Therapeutic Riding Program at Blue Heaven has three instructors that manage that program.
Blue Heaven has been conducting behavioral classes for the past six years with Carrie as the primary instructor. Clients include but are not limited to, Parrott Creek, River Bend (now dissolved), and four schools in the Estacada School District.

Bobbie Schwartz
They say the apple does not fall far from the tree. In this case it is true. Bobbie, grew up around horses, helped build a Therapeutic Riding Center from the ground up, and has become an accomplished Horsewoman. If you haven't guessed it yet, Bobbie is Carrie's daughter!

Bobbie, is an integral part of Blue Heaven. From taking care of the horses, volunteering in classes, and now becoming an instructor, Bobbie is continuing to grow in pursuing her favorite hobby... horses. She hopes to one day attend OHSU to study Veterinary Medicine.

EQUINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY INSTRUCTOR:

Richard Ernst, LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker)
Richard brings years of clinical experience in working with youth to Blue Heaven…

Richard has 34 years of experience working with at risk youth. He has worked for Outward Bound doing special programming for physically disabled persons and emotionally disturbed children, drawing on his many years of mountaineering in the Northwest. Richard has worked in residential alcohol and drug treatment and for many years has done adventure based programming for youth from all backgrounds.  He has built 20 permanent structure “ropes courses” all over the Northwest, and consulted with colleges, businesses and social service agencies in the development of experiential training and education programs.

For the past 13 years, Richard has worked as a Family Therapist with adolescent sexual offenders.  He has presented internationally on working with abused children, and is known in his field for developing experiential methods for treating complex emotional problems. He has been in private practice for 15 years specializing in couples, families and group therapy, using traditional as well as holistic modalities.

Richard loves working with horses, and studies the techniques of Natural Horsemanship. These methods emphasize respect for and partnership with the horse.  His greatest accomplishment is being happily married after 23 years.
